Spring Hope Food Drive

The Spring Hope Food Drive is a on-day province-wide event for residents of hi-rise buildings across Ontario. Food is collected on the evening of April 13 between 6:30 pm and 9:00 pm. The food is delivered to the London Food Bank on the morning of April 14.

To register your buildings, contact Brenda Davidson at the LPMA office.

On-line donations are also accepted at www.springhopefooddrive.ca.

Property Management 101 Seminars

Plan to attend these two dinner seminars designed for small landlords, investors and managers of rental property. Whether you are new to the business or well tenured, these seminars are for you. Participants will receive a binder with valuable course material that is theirs to keep for future reference. Registration is limited to just 60 people per seminar.

Seminar 1 - Property Management Basics

Speakers - B.J. Santavy (Residential Operations Manager-Skyline Management Inc.), Paul Cappa (Paralegal-Cohen Highley LLP) & Richard Izawa (Property Manager-Drewlo Holdings)

Topics:

  • Leasing - How to find good tenants, how to screen prospective tenants, the importance of proper paperwork, rental applications, lease agreements, etc.
  • Rent Rules – Rent deposits, rent receipts, rent increases. Does rent control apply? When can I increase the rent? What if property taxes go down? How much can I charge for rent?
  • Maintenance & Repair – Landlord and tenant responsibilities under the RTA, maintenance request process, move in/out inspections, fire safety information and the importance of keeping accurate records.

  • Enforcement of the Lease – How to avoid mistakes that will cost you money. Step-by-step eviction procedures.
  • Problem Tenants – How to deal with noise complaints and other behaviour issues.
  • Rent Arrears – You have your order, now what? Learn how to collect on a Landlord & Tenant Board order – garnishments and other options.
  • Damages – How to recover property damage caused by your tenant. Procedures before the Small Claims Court.
